I bought the truck back on Jan. 1978 in Fontana, Calif. The first thing that I did was pull out the old 292 motor and transmission, and put in the 1971 Merc. 429ci motor and C-6 transmission. I then put in the power steering with new sway bars up front and rear, I then put in a 1971 Ford 9″ rear end, then I got a Cad. power seat and put in it, I then bolted the front end together and made it a one piece tilt front end, then I put in a floor shiftier out of a Mustang, then I sanded it down and then primed it. Then on July 29, 1992 we had a house fire and the whole drivers side of the truck was burnt, and as a result of the fire we lost 4 of our Grandchildren. My wife has third degree burns over 35% of her body and my Daughter lost her site for over a month, and I had second degree burns across my top of my back. My son Chris lost his Daughter in the fire and our Daughter Andrea lost her 3 children in the fire. We all recovered from the fire and the my son Chris and I tore the truck down to just the cab on the frame started work on it. We rebuilt the motor and transmission. We put in a Erson TQ-50 cam and complete valve train that we got from Super Shops in Fontana, Calif. and then we went through the brake-in period and we lost the cam, it knocked off 5 lobes and then had them give me a new cam and lifters and then we put it in and did the brake-in thing again and lost 2 more lobes and then they went out businesss then we said to heck with it. We bought a Edelbrock Performer manifold with a Carter AFB Performer carb. Then we put in a Ignitor II Ignition. We sanded the truck down to raw metal and started over. We replaced the 2 doors from another truck that we had, put in the windshield from the other truck, we took out the heater from the other truck, then we re primed the truck. Then we took the truck over to Smilley”s Custom Headers in Ontario, Calif. and had him make use a custom set of fender well headers. We moved from Fontana,Calif. to Apple Valley, Calif. then I put in Chevy tilt steering column and my Granddaughter Misty Lomax and I wired up the steering column and the back-up lights and the 4 way flashers and I put in a third brake in the back of the cab. Then when I turned 62 I retired and we moved to Ashland, KY with our Daughter Andrea and Grand Daughter Misty. Our Daughter found a old county boy out there and she got married. My son-in-law Mike is a Gear Head like me. He went in and rewired my truck with a Painless Wiring Harness. He has helped me with doing lots of things on my truck. My wife Nancy and I got to the point that it is had for use to get around any more and my son Chris told use that we should m ore out to TN. with him and our Daughter-in-law Stacy. The house in Ashland was a 2 story house and it was just to hard for use to go up and down though stairs. So now we live with Chris and Stacy in a 1 story house with 4 bedrooms. Chris and I have been working on the truck along with my Great Grandchildren. We have the truck over to Jason’s a friend of ours right now and he is making use a new motor mount, he boxed in the front frame so he can make us the new motor mount, he welded up all of the holes in the firewall and the frame up front, we are getting ready to put the new Corvette master cyl and run new metal brake lines, put in a new sway bar up front, put in a new patch panel on the drivers side between the front door and front cowl. We have taken the truck back down to raw metal again and then we are final going to paint it after 38 years, we can’t wait to final get it back on the road again
