1969 GMC C10 – David L.

The journey began some time in 73 when my uncle Darrell who was 17 bought the truck from his boss. He drove it for a few months and decided that he wanted a car. That’s when my Papaw stepped in a got the truck. He drove this truck everywhere. Up the east coast to down south. This was truly a work truck. In the meantime, my other uncles drove the truck to school, on dates hunting and fishing trips. You name it the truck was there. My first memories of the truck was when my family would go visit Granny and Papaw and to keep me out of trouble my Papaw would take me for rides mostly for ice cream. Fast forward 10 years this old truck was given to my dad who put many more miles on the truck. He would squeeze me and my 3 other siblings into the truck and take off. My dad drove the old truck for years. We had to take the shifter off the column when the linkage got twisted. Replaced the old worn out straight 6 with another worn out straight 6! When my Papaw passed in 93 my dad inherited his car and the truck was parked. I did not have a car so I begged my dad to drive the old truck. After months of begging he finally let me drive it. I drove it through high school and loved the old truck. When I was a Senior in high school I’d saved up enough money to get my own car so the old truck was parked. My dad had always dreamed of restoring the truck so slowly he started buying parts but with kids still at home and grandkids on the way it stalled. Fast forward again to Christmas 2012 when my Dad passed away. It was always known that I would inherit the old truck but I had no idea what to do with it. I knew how much it meant to me, my Dad and the rest of the family. Any person in their right mind would have scraped it. To say it was rough and worn out was an understatement. It sat in storage for a year before my uncles and I decided to restore it. I contacted a local builder and after a year the old truck was back on the road. It was a very emotional reveal. The truck was delivered 22 years to the date that my Papaw, my uncles Dad had passed away. It’s a huge part of this families history from first dates, road trips and always being there when someone one needed a helping hand. Thank you LMC for the many parts that it took to put this beauty back on the road!
