1968 Chevy C10 – Jesse H.

Growing up working with my dad building cars and trucks I knew I would some day have my own project and On November 20 2009, I received my first project truck “crooked” an unmolested 50th anniversary c10 chevy 307 with an three on the tree. Being only 16 years old at the time I knew exactly what I wanted the truck to become but I knew it had to be a solid runner first. I was planning to drive this truck my senior year in high school so I pulled the 3 on the tree put in a 700r4 trans and after getting the truck running found out the 307 was junk. That’s when I decided my truck I planned to be a daily driver turned to a project truck. Saving up my money from washing cars and working at a local exhaust shop during summer of high school my boss at the exhaust shop would let me use his shop after hours so I took advantage of his welder and did a lot of sheet metal work such as shaving cab gas hole shaving the bed post and marker lights. I then had a high performance 350 built for my truck by “big bad Bob”-Rip, as well an rebuilding a 700r4 transmission for my pick up. I had a solid drivetrain setup but I wanted to do a lot of engine detail and that’s exactly what I did. I shaved and smoothed my engine bay and added porterbuilt hood hinges. Along with the help of my father Kevin Hernandez helping paint my engine compartment. In 2014, I dropped in my engine and transmission rebuilt my front suspension and added air suspension to give my truck a nice drop. I’ve been building my truck for about going on 6 years soon. It’s been a slow-moving project but it’s all I can do while being a college student. But now the hard work is showing in the truck and I appreciate every moment I get to work on my truck. It humbles me to know I’m following in my father’s footsteps and someday if I have a son, I’d love to pass on my love for classic Chevys to him.
