1955 GMC-Colin L.
Colin owns a traditional barber shop in Orange County, California and has been looking for a shop truck for quite some time.
He has always loved the big chrome front end of the early GMC trucks. He could have had a Chevrolet, but really wanted to hold off for that perfect GMC. After about a year of searching for the truck and scouring the internet for good donor trucks within his price range, Colin put out an ad, “Looking for 55-59 GMC/CHEVY pickup.”
About a month after the ad had expired, Colin was contact by Bill. Bill told Colin that he had a second series ’55 GMC that he was thing about letting go. Colin asked Bill for pictures and to his surprise the truck looked like exactly the condition of truck that he had been searching for.
Colin & Bill spent the next couple of months haggling over the price. Colin eventually made the 3 hour trip to Camarillo, California to see the truck. Colin took the truck with the slipping HydraMatic 4-speed & original Pontiac 6 cylinder for a test drive. And then he & Bill haggled a bit more over the price.
Colin could tell that Bill’s wife wanted the truck gone, but that Bill had some deep attachment to the truck, since it was similar to a truck Bill drove while he was in high school. Colin left without a truck.
About a month later, Colin started pestering Bill via text messages. Bill didn’t have the truck listed online or have a ‘for sale’ sign on it. Bill finally agreed to sell the truck to Colin for the original offer. Colin grabbed a trailer and his pops and went to pick up the new addition to the family.
For a few months, Colin would drive the truck to his local Cars & Coffee in Aliso Viejo, California with the kids. No power steering and pouring fuel in the carb every time to get her started became real old, real quick. After Colin’s wife took their Christmas card picture with the truck, they dropped it off at McGregor’s Speed Shop to begin the 5.3L Vortec motor swap.
Thus began the Maroon & Black GMC’s transformation into the Logan Brothers Shaving Co. shop truck. The Pontiac six cylinder was replaced by the 5.3L Vortec V8 engine and the slipping original transmission was switched over to a 4L60E transmission.
Other upgrades included an exterior transmission cooler, an aluminum radiator, Mustang II front suspension, a Ford 9” rear, power disc brakes, power steering, a rear spring kit, driveshaft, radial whitewalls on smoothie wheels, custom leather interior & tuxedo black paint.
Upgrades still to come include an electric parking brake, bed wood with polished stainless trips, a stereo system and a flip down license plate hitch receiver.
The truck is also going to allow them to expand their mobile services in style when it pulls the 1950 Spartan Mansion 33’ trailer, which is being transformed into a mobile barbershop lounge with the same eye for detail as the truck and their services.
“This truck represents a by gone era of hard work, quality craftsmanship and American pride! We take our time and this truck fits the old time feel of our family owned business.” –Colin Logan
