1991 Chevy Silverado – David M.
1991 Z71 4×4 Silverado Chevy Short bed.
This is your story, I have had my old friend for 25 years now. I tell everyone that when we were young
we were red, now that we are older we turned gray. If only I could get a frame off restoration also, no telling
how long we could hang out together.
This old friend has worked with me in the Fire Department (Professional) and then construction, helped
me find my love, raise a family, played with our kids and then the grandkids, gone fishing, pulled my
horse’s for roping and RV’s for camping without whining.
We worked with FEMA as a telecommunication contractor for 16 years rebuilding outside plant
communication systems after natural disasters. What did that mean, a lot of tools need to be hauled
across this country. We have been from Florida to Seattle Washington with stops all across this
wonderful country of ours, we have meet all kinds of people along the way (other trucks to). Over the
past 25 years there are so many memories, forgive me if I tend to forget them all.
So what did we do to this old friend, in 2012 we had some rust starting above the windshield. This was a
bad spot, so I had a choice what to do? After looking around at other trucks new and used (felt like
cheating LOL) we decided to fix him, down to the body shop we go where we pull the body off down to
the frame. Throughout the decades when we needed parts I have always ordered from LMC (thanks for
being there).
Well this was no different, after a hood, cab corners, tail lights, custom paint, front end leveling kit, ¾
ton leaf springs, 17” rock star wheels, 285 R70 17 tires and some other things from LMC, were back baby
and I think looking better than ever. The thing I like the most is in this world of everyone needing to
look the same, having my truck look different than anyone else’s vehicle on the road today is rewarding.
Also no one can hack my truck!
No matter where we go someone asks about my gray truck and can they buy it. I tell them to find the
vehicle that they like, fix the little thing as they happen (a lot of little things becomes one big thing) if
you don’t it’s a dead end road for you and your vehicle. I also show them how they can save money by
getting there parts from LMC. Once again thanks LMC for being there for us.
With the grandbaby’s getting older 17, 16, 15 (yeah I said grandbaby’s), God willing one day gray (AKA
red) and I will be riding the great grand babies around, windows down, back glass slid open and digging
on the radio. As the band Blackberry Smoke in their freedom song says, looking for that extra gear in my
old truck. Now that would be beautiful. PS; Ride the bow tie.
Sincerely
David and Gray (AKA Red).
