1957 GMC-Danny D.

MY BIG,BAD &BLUE TURNS MANY HEADS
I pulled my 57 (paying only $200) out of a mud filled junkyard in 1982 with a mural of the Eagles Oxen Head Album Cover across the hood. It had no brakes so pulling it with the 1958 Chevy Pickup was a little nerve racking but we got it home. The challenge and dream began.
My 57 came with an original Pontiac 347 cubic inch 5.7 liter engine and a 4 speed original transmission with a granny gear. What an awesome and rare find. I began by overhauling the engine from top to bottom rebuilding it to stock specifications, other than a high energy cam and a Rochester 2 barrel carburetor. I drove my 57 at this stage for the next couple of years until the king pins seized.
Over the next few years very little got done between work, college and moving. I had put a lot of my parts in a storage unit which I eventually lost.
The hunt begins. Finding parts seemed almost impossible. I searched coast to coast not having much luck. In 2001 I came upon a 1957 Chevy truck in a muddy driveway with weeds all around and flat tires. I purchased this for $150. I filled up the tires, got it started and drove it most of the way home until it died. I pulled it the rest of the way home to my backyard. Between using the compatible parts off it and discovering LMC TRUCK CATALOG (they probably know me by my first name and voice by now) the restoration began. After many cuts, bruises, burns and 1 fire (thanks Hal lol) and 15 years it was ready for paint. Thanks to “THE BODY SHOP” and Charlie Roupe my 57 GMC turned out way above and beyond what I had ever imagined. A dream come true.
I left the engine, body, suspension and rear end all original (all matching numbers), changing only the ring and pinion for some hi way driving. I also have dual exhaust with glass packs and a high energy cam. But of course there is always something else that needs done.
My 57 gets driven when ever weather permits. The grandkids love to ride, their always saying faster grandpa faster. I drive my truck with much joy and pride with my head held high and a big smile of satisfaction on my face.
