1960 Chevy C10-Samuel F.
Samuel’s 1960 Chevy C10 was originally purchased by his uncle, David Sr., in Silver City, New Mexico. Fast forward 56 years and David Sr. just turned 90 years old and was the first to inspect this 1960 Chevy C10 after its restoration.
The truck came from the factory with a couple of upgrades. First, it is a floor shift as opposed to a tree shift. Fourth gear is a “compound” gear for ultra-low gearing; coupled with the Posi-trac gave this C10 the performance parallel to a two wheel drive Jeep.
Samuel has fond memories as a teenager of going to the mountains in southern New Mexico in this truck for hunting and camping trips. Samuel’s uncle was a Chevrolet man who replaced this truck with a Silverado in the ‘70s.
David Sr. owned this truck from 1960 to 1975 when he turned the keys over to his son, David Jr.. David Jr. and his wife, Cathy, raised a family in the truck. They can clearly remember shifting and holding on to kids before the seatbelt laws. David and Cathy owned the truck until 2015 when Samuel wrestled the keys away from them.
Samuel kept cousin, David, in the loop as he worked through the restoration process. LMC Truck was right there with him, part by part, as the truck was brought back to life. The truck had not run in 20 years and had been calling to Samuel for a long time.
Once Samuel started the process, he counted on his father-in-law Floyde for his blood, sweat and advice throughout the build. Before Samuel purchased this 1960 Chevy C10, Floyde agreed to walk Samuel through the painstaking process of restoration. Floyde is mechanical engineer who ran an auto repair business for many years. Floyde’s familiarity with classic vehicles proved to be critical at every turn of the build. Floyde guided Samuel through every aspect of the tear down and build of the truck. Floyde lives 200 miles away from Samuel and they had to orchestrate the weekends that Samuel would go down to work on the truck.
The first major obstacle was rebuilding the fuel system (tank, lines, pump and carburetor) to get the truck running. Floyde’s ingenuity allowed them to put a larger air clear on the system. It was quite a day when the engine finally turned over and was ready for the road again.
When it came to the body, frame and engine paint, Floyde connected Samuel with a man in southern New Mexico. The intense process required three months of body work to bring it to its current state. The body color is Corvette Laguana Blue from the 1966 model year.
For Samuel this truck wasn’t about being a show vehicle, but about bringing back the fond memories.
“This old truck was a great project that allowed my wife and I to connect and get to know each other’s family in a great and fun way.”
