1965 GMC 1000-Al H.

Many years ago my wife and I owned a hardware/power equipment store. One of our customers routinely came to our store driving a 1965 GMC pickup truck which always caught my eye. One day I received a call from a lady requesting that I pick up her tractor and push mower for a spring tune-up. I pulled into her driveway that evening. Parked in the back yard was that 1965 GMC. While loading her tractor and push mower I asked if the truck was for sale. She broke into tears. Her husband had passed away two weeks earlier. The next day she called me to advise that I could buy the truck. I drove it home that evening. My title is dated 10-27-1988. I am her second owner. The truck “Miss Jimmie” went to work with me through 1999 when we both retired.
When I purchased the truck it had been dressed up by the owner’s son and grandsons to look more like the tractor that “papaw” drove before having been forced into retirement by a bad heart. They painted her black with a brush, installed rear air shocks, an air horn, western style side view mirrors, and a CB radio. I removed all of this prior to a paint job and upholstery. In this same time frame I replaced the 230 cu.in. six engine with a Chevy 283 cu.in. engine dating 1962.
Since those days I have upgraded “Miss Jimmie” on a continuing basis including new side view mirrors, dome light, arm rests, visors, rear bumper, radio, tachometer, repaint interior, a new wooden bed. Original parts include all four brake drums, master cylinder and wheel cylinders, all front end and drive train parts, the entire rust free body, and the rubber floor mat in the cab has never had a foot on it without a cover. I have the original owner’s manual.
This is an ongoing experience. After 29 years “Miss Jimmie” is appreciated more than ever. She is an absolute pleasure to drive. She started life as a work truck, and has survived long enough to become a lady of leisure, and gets prettier every year. Thanks to LMC Truck I’ve always been able to get the parts both she and my 1978 Chevy pickup (owned for 26 years) have wanted.
