1954 Ford F100 – Thomas Carson

This story begins 30 years ago with my dad. He purchased the 1954 ford with intent to restore it, however the arrival of a daughter forced him to re-prioritize and the truck sat in the back of the barn behind the saw mill.
A few years and a son later he decided to sell it thinking it was a project he didn’t have time for. My grandad hated to see it go so he purchased it, all the while it didn’t move from its spot in the barn.
My grandad had it out once to have it rewired, but then right back in the barn.
In 2013 I decided to liberate the truck and get it back to life. The silver lining of it being that having sat behind the saw mill, it accumulated an inch of sawdust keeping it virtually rust free.
I got it running and driving and decided to replace the rotten wood in the box. After I had the box off I noticed the cab mounts were broken. After taking the cab off (which meant taking the front body off), I thought “I’ve gone this far, I might as well yank the drive train and clean it up.” Once the engine was on a stand, I thought “Well….. It’s going to be a long time before I have the engine out…….” so a full engine rebuild ensued.
Being young and just recently started my professional career, progress on the truck has slowed to a crawl. Things are being restored and bolted back together with lots of work to do.
The story will end, the question is well it end with a 4th generation wrenching on it?
