1987 Chevy K5 Blazer – Jacob V.

My truck’s story begins on Christmas Day of 2010. I was 15 years old and had been wanting a K5 ever since I was a kid. That morning my dad surprised me with a 1987 K5 blazer, it needed a lot of work but I was happy to have a project. Initially my plan was to fix the small things and get it rode ready by my 16th birthday in July. In the mean time I took it to several mud bogs and blew the motor. Once my 16th birthday rolled around we dropped the 406 small block in the truck and I started daily driving it. At this point it needed a lot of body work. About a month later I burnt the trans up and parked it. We started planning our build. We started buying parts and getting ready to do a frame off restoration. We bought a new frame, rust free tub from down south, and fenders/doors from lmc. From the time the frame was sandblasted and painted it took us 3 months to get the truck to be a driver in July of 2013. Since then I have continued to upgrade/restore the truck. I’ve spent a lot of time tracking down original GM interior and factory A/C. We recently pulled the motor out and put a cam, roller rockers, heads, intake/carb, and a 2500 stall converter. The drive train set up is a 406 cir small block with a 400 trans, np 208 t case, 14 bolt full floater rear axle, 10 bolt corp front axle with 3.73 gears. Since the build the truck has been a summer cruiser and a fun truck to play with at the silver lake sand dunes.
