1996 Chevy Silverado – Jake S.

I wish I could say that this truck has been in my life since I was a little boy, although; I first seen this truck when I was 14. My father purchased this truck in means of using it for hunting. He rarely drove it and sat my young age I thought noting more of it being old. He asked me if I would like to have it for my first truck, I denied and said “that thing is old I don’t want that”. Looking back now that was a very selfish and ungrateful thing to say. My dad ended up selling the truck to get something else. 2 years later before getting my license, I had no vehicle that I was going to drive when I got my license. I had seen online lots of trucks this model, lifted, lowered, restored, even stock. I WANTED THIS TRUCK BACK. So my venture of trying to get this truck back began, Luckily my dad had sold this truck to his friend so I thought maybe I could it easily, I thought wrong. For a few months my dads friend was strong on not wanting to sell it, I thought that it was a lost cause. One day my dad called me after school with good news. I was going to get my dream truck for my first vehicle after I had already had the chance to have it 2 years prior. So there it was my 1996 Chevy K1500 sitting in my parents driveway. I drove it to school everyday with only a little bigger than stock tires added. I was wanting to do something to make it like the ones I had previously seen online, so I started researching. I FOUND IT, a solid axle conversion. From that day on my heart was set on removing the stock ifs and placing a solid axle under it.

For almost 3 years I worked a part-time job to save the money to buy all the parts that I needed and finally a month after graduating from high school it was time. I removed all the stock independent suspension and replaced it with a solid front axle from an 1985 K5 Blazer with a full 12″ suspension lift sitting on 37″ tires. Till this day the truck will always be a work in progress as I will always find something to make it more clean and nice. I have made a ton of memories in this truck and I will keep it for the rest of my time. As there were many parts acquired for my truck I would like to personally thank LMC for their great online and hardcopy catalog, swell as there customer service. Thank you all and God Bless.
