1972 Chevy C20 – Jesse T.

Well my story with my particular truck is a relatively short one as I’ve only had it less than a year but the story leading up to it dates back to my childhood.

One of my first memories as a boy was riding in the middle of the bench seat of my grandfather’s ’72 C-20 Cheyenne. He would be driving, I would be in the middle, and my dad would be on the right. We traveled around together like that to flea markets, fairs, and car shows. My grandfather would make automotive themed clocks and wooden trucks and sell them as a vendor. Consequently, my dad also had a ’72 chevy pickup at the time. His was a C-10. It was a 4 speed. I can remember sitting in my booster seat in that truck and shifting gears for him. He would push in the clutch, tell me what gear he wanted, and I would grab the shifter like a broom handle and shift it for him.

Needless to say, my love affair with these trucks runs deep. I fell across the ad for my particular truck totally by accident. I was looking at ads for old corvettes. At that time I had a ’64 Chevy Belair and the ad for the truck mentioned “interesting trades considered”. The truck was the same colors as my grandfather’s was. I called the number and the owner was very interested in entertaing a trade for my Belair so I fired up the ’64 and made the 2 hour trip to his location. I fell in love with the truck instantly and he loved my Belair too. We signed and exchanged our registrations, I bid farewell to my Belair, and I headed home with my new truck, grinning from ear to ear.

As the story goes, my truck came from Arizona and spent it’s life in the desert. It’s a factory A/C truck as a result. The original paint was pretty well baked off from the hot Arizona sun so it’s had one repaint, original GM medium blue. The roof is Cadillac pearl instead of the original white. The interior was original to the truck and showing signs of age so I’m in the process of replacing it all with Cheyenne blue interior, thanks to LMC. The truck came with the original white steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps, which I still have, but I wanted a little more pop, so I sourced up some period correct mag wheels 16.5, and period correct 9.50 tires. My truck is box stock, right down to the air cleaner. It just has a Flowmaster dual system with resonators and 40 series mufflers so it’s not too loud.

My daughter loves it too. She always wants to go out in the garage and see “daddy truck”. She’s 2 and a half. If she stays loving it as much as I do, it will be hers when she turns 16.
I absolutely love my truck. Every time I look at it I can see my grandfather sitting on the tailgate. I can’t help but smile when I look at the dashboard and reminisce my childhood once again, riding along between my 2 best friends, with the same big smile on my face. Some things never change.
