1965 Ford F100 – Bill P.

My name is Bill and my truck is a 1965 Ford F100 shortbed. I found the truck on Craigslist and brought it up from Texas to Kansas City several years ago. It looked better in pictures than it did in person but I really liked the shortbed look. It was a rusty mess (“almost rust-free”) in need of the right shop, so I stuck it in my garage until I could find the right place to do the work.

A few years later, my daughter and I went up to Legendary Customs in La Crosse, Wisconsin to check out another vehicle they had for sale that looked like it might be a good daily driver. Well, that car and I were not a good fit, but Chris at Legendary Customs turned out to be the right person to trust with the shortbed project.

After talking over all the options with Chris, we went from putting a Crown Vic front end under the truck to a full body swap with a 2011 Kansas Highway Patrol Crown Vic Interceptor. Chris had found the car at an auction with low mileage and damage only high up on the body. Chris handled all the measurements and math and assured me using the car would get me all the updates I wanted and turn the truck into a comfortable, dependable daily driver.

My daughter and I were able to follow along with the build on Facebook, and Chris was great about keeping in touch and talking over details. The engineering of the body swap meant the gas tank and exhaust would need to be relocated. The truck was originally planned with a sun-baked finish but when Chris got the flat Wimbledon White and Midnight Turquoise, both original 1965 Ford colors, on the truck I was sold. The interior has the same colors but in a high gloss finish for contrast. As a fun added feature, Chris left the original police lights on the frame.

While Chris was working on the truck, he kept LMC on speed dial! This truck wouldn’t be what it is today without the diligent, detailed work of Legendary Customs and the friendly, helpful service of LMC.[lmc_story_gallery]
