1972 GMC Sierra – Jeff C.

My first vehicle was a lime green 1970 GMC base truck (Long wheel base, 250 6 cylinder, three on the tree and no power brakes) that I purchased from my dad for $1500. (I always wanted a Sierra Grande with all the bells and whistles but couldn’t afford it). I changed the color on my ole truck to blue and silver and replaced the 6 cylinder with a 350 V8. I really enjoyed the truck and had a lot of good memory’s in it. Of course being young I sold the truck a few years later.

Fast forward 33 years… I came across a red 1972 GMC short wheel base Sierra Grande sitting under a barn shelter in rough condition with a dog living on top of it. My mind raced back in time and I had to have this truck. I stopped at the house beside the barn and inquired about the truck. The lady at the house explained it was her husbands truck he had purchased new. Her husband had passed away 18 years prior and the truck had sat ever since. I told her my story and she explained she would think about selling it. I didn’t think she would sell it and forgot about the truck, but after 6 months, out of the blue I received a call from her and she stated she would sell it. I purchased the truck.

I did a complete off the frame restoration on this truck. The truck has been slightly modified but still holds most of its originality. It took me a little over a year to complete. I worked on it about every night and every weekend. My wife accused me of having an affair with the truck because I spent so much time with it. The truck is a driver and not a trailer queen. I have named the truck “Flashback” because it takes me back in time when I’m driving it. This is the truck I wanted when I was 16 but couldn’t afford it. Thanks to LMC for their parts catalog and availability of parts. Without LMC this truck memory/restoration would not have been possible.[lmc_story_gallery]
