1986 GMC 3500 – Clint S.
My dad had a 1980 half-ton Chevy that he bought new, and that was the truck that I learned to drive in when I was little. It had a bench seat, of course, and he’d let us sit on his lap, and from my grandma’s house or once we’d hit a gravel road, he’d let me steer. When I was old enough to reach the pedals, he could just sit to the side of me and still be there to hit the brake if he needed to. So that was the truck I learned to drive in. He had that truck for a long time.
This truck is an ’86 GMC full 1-ton 3500. What I like about these is all the heavy equipment that comes on them from the factory. They’ve got the big block motors in them. And the other thing that differentiates them from the others is that they have the Dana 60 front axle, the heavier front axle that everyone says is bullet-proof. Same with the 205 cast iron transfer case.
The other thing the 1-tons have is the roof marker lights, which the half-tons and ¾-tons didn’t get from the factory. Also, the tailgate has running lights along the back. So those are the two things that, from the outside appearance, give this truck a little different look, along with the 3500 badging along the side.
These are just a heavier truck, and I like the appearance of them. That’s why I seek them out. They are just my favorite.[lmc_story_gallery]
