1964 Chevrolet C10 Stepside – Tom B.

In 1960, the Chevy C/K line of trucks was released for the first time. One of the most popular models from the C/K series was the Chevy C10, a half-ton, light-duty pickup. Several body styles were available for the C/K trucks, such as the popular Fleetside and the Stepside, which consisted of rear wheels on the outside of the bed, with a step located between the cab and the wheel wells.

Surrounded by family who had the coolest cars in the neighborhood, there was plenty of support when it came time to learning about how a C10 worked. Fixated on owning a Chevy C10 pickup, I purchased a 1964 C10 Sidestep from the second owner. To give the truck a proper resurrection he got busy stripping it down the BONDO at his shop, Gales Body Shop. The bed was refinished in a new wood flooring. A GM 12-bolt truck rear was filled with 3.73:1 gears and hung in place by stock trailing arms.

When it came time to breathing life back into the weathered truck. A 350 c.i. was installed along with a TH350. An Edelbrock manifold, Holly carburetor and ISKY cam were added. Wanting to utilize as many factory parts as possible, the original manifolds were kept and a duel exhaust was added.

The factory dash was treated to a custom insert and filled with dials to monitor the vitals. The original steering wheel was kept, while tunes flow from Pioneer, and Vintage Air keeps the cabin cool. Wrapping it all up the factory bench was replaced by bucket seats from a Firebird and a console from a 1965 GMC was added. The seats were recovered in a combination of black vinyl for a 68 Camaro and red stitching. Thanks to ongoing help from family, the truck evolved to its present state over a period to where you see it here. If the desire is there, anything can be accomplished and that if you put in the time, the rewards will follow.[lmc_story_gallery]
