1965 Chevy 1500 – Wayne C.
First Truck
When I was 16 and just got my driver’s license, I was asked by friends what vehicle I wanted. That was easy for me to answer. My grandfather had a 1965 Chevrolet pickup the needed to be restored. I worked all year to get enough money to buy and restore the old truck. I drove this truck all through my high school years while my friends drove new vehicles.
Now, 30 years later, I am starting the process over again with a 100% nut bolt restoration and adding a few mods on the way. I started the restoration a few years back and then lost the shop I was working in. I put the truck in my back yard under a tarp to protect the 80% body work completed. I decided to move the truck one day only to find all the work was blistered from the heat under the tarp. Many pieces had to be replaced.
I am now working on this project with my complete family involved. My wife has decided on the color, kandy burgundy. The motor we decided on will be a LSA 6.2ltr. This truck means the world to me personally because it was the first new truck my grandfather ever purchased. My dad put a lot of time in this truck before he passed away and now it has been handed down to me as the sole owner for me to do as I please.
With the support of my family we will restore it as a show piece to represent our love for the past. As work progresses photos will be sent. Slow process for a person who is doing a 100% of the work himself.[lmc_story_gallery]
