1969 Ford F100 – Joe O.
’69 Daily Driver
After searching for an old truck for a few years, I found this 1969 in Grand Rapids MI. It ran, but the heads were in bad shape, had a pretty rough miss, and when I drained the old 3 speed transmission, it looked like it was full of glitter. The inside smelled old, wet, and musky. The radio was from the 80s and barely played.
Without detailing everything that was done to the truck, here is the short version of the build. The tired old engine was yanked out and a fresh 302 V8 from Blueprint Engines was installed. This engine was bored over to 306ci, has a mild cam, and some good heads. Hooker long tube headers were installed, along with new carb, intake manifold, distributor, starter, and alternator. The old 3 speed trans was removed and a new Tremec TKO 500 was installed. After inspecting the rear end, it was found to be in bad shape, so it was replaced a limited slip set-up. The drive shaft was also replaced, and a new exhaust system was built and installed. The truck was lowered 3” all the way around and 20” chrome 5 spoke wheels were installed. New body side molding was installed.
I removed everything from inside the cab and started from bare metal. The heater box was removed and completely rebuilt with new gaskets, seals, and hoses. I found the source of the wet and musky smell as the vents on both sides were full of wet, rotten leaves and twigs. After sound deadening and insulation was installed, new carpet was put in place. The headliner was removed and an ABS headliner with 4 speakers was installed. A new radio was installed that has all modern features like Bluetooth and USB inputs, but the look is 100% classic 60s. New gauges were installed, along with new knobs and bezels, new lights, new glass and weather stripping in both doors.
I bought parts from several sources, but most of the parts came from LMC. Thank you for helping me get this truck on the road. I can jump in it at any time and drive it wherever I want. But…..I cannot go anywhere without people stopping me to talk about it.[lmc_story_gallery]
