1984 GMC C15 – Blake J.
Blake and Ricky’s 1984 GMC
Well back in 2017, me and my dad were looking for my first truck. I had always liked the 73-87 gm body style and really wanted one so we looked online for a month or two but couldn’t really find one that was in our price range. Until one day one of dads friends found one on Craigslist only a couple of miles away from the house, we went and looked at it and it was a fairly solid. A 1984 GMC High Sierra, though it was clear that the 305 needed some work, there was little rust and it was exactly what we were looking for so we paid the man and drove her home. The truck had been owned by the same guy for about 32 years so, everything was stock and wearing out. I had started out on the interior, buying most parts I needed from LMC, then was on to the exterior, as much as I loved the old two-tone, I was really wanting a solid black color, so we got it painted later in the year and she was set for about 4 months until the 305 was finally on its last leg. It had bent a couple push rods and was in need of rebuilding, but we decided to go another route. My buddy’s dad had an old sb 350 out of a 1969 corvette sitting in his shop that he was willing to part with and agreed to help me rebuild it from the ground up. We tore this 350 apart, boring out the cylinders .30 over from stock, dropping both a new crank and a new moderate Comp cam into her, at the same time, we replaced everything in the heads, put a new Edelbrock intake and carburetor and cleaned up all the parts we were reusing. Finally, we were ready to drop it into the truck. She ran like a top for about 2 months until a key component of rebuilding the engine that we had forgotten came back to bite us, the transmission. The 35 year old 700r4 just couldn’t handle the new engine and had thrown up on us, leaving the truck back on jack stands. Now, we are in the process of getting the old transmission rebuilt to hopefully have the old thing back on the road for good. I couldn’t have made it this far without the help of LMC Truck, Mr. Hightower and most of all my dad. Thanks for letting me share the never ending story of my truck I hope in the next couple of weeks to have her back on the road.[lmc_story_gallery]
