1955 Chevy 3100 – Cyn B.
Tale of “Happie”
Cyn is a hard-working, girl-next-door, with a contagious smile and positive “can do” attitude. She learned to drive on an advanced design “three-on-a-tree” and, in 2015 purchased her own 1955 (1st) Chevy pickup, aptly named “Happie”. The truck’s name is no coincidence as Cyn’s wheels share her own fun and outgoing personality-painted a retro turquoise hue (a nod to its roots in the American southwest) and features wooden bedside frames engraved with an image of the covered bridge named after Cyn’s family of Vermont dairy farmers. Upon first meeting both Cyn and her truck, people often comment that doing so “just makes them Happie”.
Cyn is retired from two full-time careers: one as a devoted “Navy Wife” (arguably the “toughest job in the Navy!) and the other as a public school physical education teacher. “Broukes” as she is fondly referred to by her beloved students, taught for more than thirty years in schools from Massachusetts, to Maine, Florida, Virginia and even Iceland. As a former collegiate athlete, well-respected coach, and proud mother of three daughters, “Broukes” continues to embody the loyal and cheerful spirit of her truck “Happie”.
Cyn enjoys sharing “Happie’s” joy at car shows across greater New England, which she attends regularly with her husband, Steve, and family. This summer, Cyn will embark on her latest adventure, a small-business named “Happie Go Luckie”, which will sell vintage toys (think: paddleballs, yo-yo’s and marbles) from the 1950’s and ’60’s, as well as penny candy and healthy treats. The hope is that “Happie Go Luckie” will inspire folks to harken back to a time when people interacted more with one another than with “gadgets”. “Happie go Luckie” was created in an effort to bring light and positivity in the wake of a tragic loss. A portion of the business’s proceeds will be donated to the National Eating Disorders Association in memory of Cyn’s daughter, Mary, who left this world on March 23, 2019 after an 18 year battle with anorexia and bulimia. Her energetic spirit lives on in the joy that “Happie” will share with others.[lmc_story_gallery]
