1991 Ford F250 – James M.
In 2016 I went to a farm auction here in Powell, WY. In the line up I spied a 1991 Ford F-250. Kind of rough looking with the original gray paint faded and peeling. A mechanic friend of mine happen to be with me, so we started to examine the undercarriage, the engine compartment, etc. Everything seemed to be intact and fairly well maintained. The odometer read 94,000 original miles. I opened the glove box and found the operators manual still in good shape. To my surprise, the registered owner was The University of Wyoming! They had bought it new from a dealer in Cheyenne and used for their Agriculture Dept. It is equipped with a 7.5 E-460 gas engine, four wheel drive, and a five speed manual tranny with overdrive. I was the successful bidder at $1400.00! So I started to do what restoration I could, not being a professional at it. The Red interior was amazingly pristine with no signs of excessive wear except where the driver sat. So I had the seat redone.I pulled all the wheels and cleaned and undercoated everything I could get at. Had all the windows tinted by “Big Horn Window Tinting” in Cody. For the exterior I wanted a nice clean look and also wanted an original Ford color. I chose “Wimbledon White” which was in vogue at the time. The paint job was done by “MAACO’ in Billings, MT., and they did a great job on it! In 2017 I entered the truck in “The Cody Country Car Show” in Cody. I didn’t win any prizes, but I enjoyed sitting by my truck in a lawn chair for three days and taking the nice comments on it by the people passing by. In the winter of 2019 I was going to work at 6;00 a.m. when I hit a Buck deer broadside at 55 mph. It took out the right front headlight, the grill, and dented the right front fender. I ordered the headlight and the grill from LMC truck and installed them myself, then back to MAACO for the rest. Again, they did a great job matching the paint and fixing everything up like new.
