1981 GMC K1500 -James S.
Let’s Just Say It’s Meant To Be
Where to start, The year was 1990 I was 12 years old and went to visit my dad for the summer. What I didn’t know was I would be driving a truck that I would later own at the age of 41. So let me start from the beginning, my folks divorced sometime in 1981 and like all newly divorced guys what better to do than buy a new vehicle. So my dad buys this 1981 GMC Sierra 4×4 I always thought this truck was bad ass growing up. Ok so there I was 12 years old, summer of 1990 my dad ask you hungry and of course I was so we head to the bar. I sat in the truck, he brings me out a burger and fries and heads back in for a few more Rainiers. An hour or so later he comes out and opens the passenger door and says you know how to drive? See me and my dad weren’t real close, I lived with my mom a few hours away. My step dad had taught me how to drive so I said yes I can drive. My dad says slide over, his house was probably a mile from the bar. I drove us home thinking this is awesome. Well sadly the next year I went to visit him and he had sold the truck and bought a new one. Fast forward to 2017 my cousin calls me and says hey man I bought your dads old truck, I said how do you know, he said well the guy that bought it from your dad sold it to me. This guy bought this truck in 1991 and was still driving it. I took the vin # down and made some calls and verified this was my dads truck. My cousin called me a few months back and had some interest in selling the truck, I told him I wanted it and when he was ready to call me. Here we are August 2020 and I get the call, the truck is mine now and my son and I have big plans to fix her up. He’s 14 and is excited to help me work on the truck and possibly be driving her to school in a few years.[lmc_story_gallery]
