1977 Chevy Scottsdale – Gary L.

1977 Chevrolet 4×4 Restoration

I come from a Chevrolet family, and have owned several Chevys in my life.  My twin brother and I grew up tinkering with engines and working with a variety of tools, and grew our mechanic skill set from there.

The 1977 Chevrolet Scottsdale was the first truck we purchased new for $5,860.  We were self employed and needed a tough truck that would take us through a variety of conditions.  The 4×4 was put to good use its first two winters by pulling some of our neighbors out of icy ditches.  At 70,000 miles, the truck was totaled.  There was no damage to the engine fortunately, but we replaced the cab, hood, fender and other parts.  The ’77 Chevy made it through 176,000 miles of muddy fields, deer camps, rough backgrounds and Arkansas highways.  We retired the truck in 2003.

We decided to restore this truck back to its former glory in 2021.  All the parts came from LMC Truck. My brother and I did all the restoration work ourselves with the exception of the frame powder coating and some machine work on the V8 350 engine.  We restored it all original, down to the same color, interior and original tire size.  Total project cost was $10,500.

Its a good feeling driving my first truck again.
