1950 GMC W100 – Terry M.

The Moore Family GMC Truck

This 1950 GMC truck was purchased in 1953. Jack Moore of Sylva, North Carolina was stationed overseas during his time in the military. At the age of 17, Jack sent money home to his father, Jesse Moore, to purchase the truck. He wanted to help his dad out because Jesse had broken his back at work and needed a truck at the time. Jesse loved the truck and kept it for many years. During a financial hardship, Jesse had to sell the truck to someone in Sylva, North Carolina.
In 1975, Jack Moore retired from the Navy after three tours in the Vietnam War. He moved home to Sylva, North Carolina. When he got home, he looked all over for the truck that he had purchased many years before. Luckily, Jack was able to find the truck and purchase it again. It needed some work and a paint job, but he was so thrilled to have it back. He immediately started working on it and rebuilt the engine and transmission. The new engine came from a 1968 model. The engine is an inline 250 six-cylinder with a 4-speed transmission and an open drive line.
In 1993, the truck received a professional paint job and the seats were also reupholstered during this time. The truck looked like new again. The seats were upholstered with the “The Moore Family” stitched on the seat’s back. Jack kept the truck until 2013. To ensure the truck would be driven often enough, Jack passed the truck to his eldest son, Terry Moore in 2013. Terry lives in Franklin, North Carolina, where he often puts the truck in truck shows and parades. It has won first place, twice in its class.
Terry Moore has been restoring the truck since he received it in 2013. So far, it has received updated windshield wiper motors, a new windshield, mirrors, tail lights, and chrome knobs. There will be more restorations to come in the near future. Terry enjoys driving and working on the truck. His memories of his grandpa and dad driving the truck make the time he spends in the truck a cherished occasion.
