1957 Chevy 3100 – John B.

It was 2011, I had just closed my business and lost my 2011 Challenger SRT. I was looking for a replacement classic vehicle. After looking online, I had decided to go see a ’40 Ford pickup in New Hampshire, but while looking around this ’57 Chevy kept popping up and it was in North Jersey, so I figured we could stop on the way to take a peek. It was at a consignment shop and was buried in the center of warehouse. This dark cherry ’57, shining like diamond. Old school craigers, white letter tires, and oak side rails. I got to hear it run, but couldn’t drive it. Spent about an hour there, and moved on to New Hampshire to see the ’40 Ford. A two-tone orange that was a private owner, and to be honest, it looked awesome in the photos, and ran very well, but just wasn’t as good as it looked in photos. Owner was very receptive to offers, but it did need some work and I could not bring myself to make my offer that I knew would make him angry. But I kept seeing the Chevy pop up and I kept falling in love with the color and the style. I was afraid to make an offer because I didn’t drive it. It was the middle of winter and it snowed every time I wanted to go, but something inside said make an offer and if he accepts it, then it’s meant to be. I made an offer, a low one , I thought, and he accepted it! Now I waited another 3 weeks to get it because it kept snowing, but it finally showed up late November. I got to drive it around the block but that was it. The 1st time I took it to a show, the steering column fell off the dash, and I thought oh boy I got a turd! I went over all the bolts and screws, replaced a battery, did some maintenance, and she was as good as new! It has been very reliable since then, turn the key she starts, runs great, and rides very well. Her name is Wild Cherry, and she is a looker!
