1978 Ford F100 – Leigh H.
I am the proud owner on the right, holding the second annual award. I met Micky Gilley and Johnny Lee in Hiwassee, Georgia at Anderson Music Hall, to hear them sing and hope to get my 1978 truck dash autographed by the singers. When they heard that it was a 1978 Urban Cowboy Edition, they were honored to sign it. He has won several awards, too many to count. And my family and I worked very hard for 3 1/2 years to get this truck built. My grandfather worked at General Motors for many years and he did all the body work for me. And for a girl, I tried to build this worker so hard to get it were it is today. We had an oak tree cut down and put a wood bed inside. And we had a lot of friends help us with this build, everything is all new. It has a horn on it, it sounds like a horse and if you see a man walking across the street, it whistles at them as well. John Travolta gave me his approval on this truck and he loved it… And a little story about the movie, it was made in 1978 in Pasadena, Texas at Gilley’s. Gilley’s was the world’s largest nightclub with Dew Westbrook and Betty Jones. They met at Gilley’s in 1978 and were married at Gilley’s for three and a half years. So, the story behind my truck is a piece of history and that movie is based on a true story about Dew Westbrook and Betty Jones… needless to say, I had a dream to build this truck and to make it a piece of history because the movie Urban Cowboy was well loved and cherished. And to represent in loving memory of Mickey Gilley. The white singer in Dukes of Hazzard star, Mickey Gilley!
I would be more than honored if someday this story would be told. Thank you and have a blessed day.
