1989 Ford F150 – Timothy P.
My dad has always owned a truck since I can remember. For a short time, he had an old van we fixed up to haul my racing kart back and forth to the track. My all-time favorite truck of his was a ’77 F100 short bed, brown in color with a 392/4 speed combo. I used to love watching him go through the gears, probably why I’m ate up with cars and trucks today. We purchased this ’89 short bed a couple of years ago. It was a little beat up but NO RUST! We got a buddy of mine come to our shop and do the bodywork and paint on weekends. I cut a welded, a new rocker on the driver’s side, and fixed a small spot on the tailgate, but that was it as far as rust. We took the entire blue interior out and went with black. We did the whole interior in our shop except actually sewing the seat upholstery. We cleaned the underneath and painted it black. New bumpers, grille headlights, taillights, steering column rebuilt, new tank up front, and new pumps installed, the list goes on. My old man picked the color. I was not happy at first, but it turned out good. This truck means a lot to me. I’ve been sober for 5 years now and this project was my father’s way of keeping me interested in things that we could do together and it has helped me keep my head on straight. We are going to lower it and run the 6 popper /5 speed combo for a bit but we are going to mini tub it with a 3 link ladder bar set up with coil overs in the rear and a crown Vic cradle up front. We are going to do a 351 Windsor based stroker and a Tremec 5 speed transmission in the near future. But, this truck means way more to me than just any old F150.
