1989 Ford F150 – Timothy P.

This story is a little hard for me to tell, not because it’s sad or anything, but because of what this truck means to me. My old man and I have been pretty close my entire life and he is the reason I’m a Ford guy and a gear head but I went through some bad times in the early 2000’s until about 7-8 years ago. I got hurt on a job and then got hooked on pain medication. It took a lot of trying, crying and a little jail for me to finally kick them, but I’m here today as proof it can be done. That’s where this truck comes in. My dad is in his 70’s and he absolutely did not need another project , we have a pro street ’67 Fairlane, but that’s another story. Anyway, he bought this little short box and we brought it home. The truck was faded blue on blue, but had zero rust! Sporting a six popper and manual trans. Well, I started on it. I had a good buddy of mine come to our shop and do the bodywork and paint. I did the interior from top to bottom changing it from blue to black. I cleaned up the engine bay and replaced all the components on the front of the engine and deleted the vacuum pump. I fabbed up my own cold air kit and a few other things like the rear bumper. Big fight between us as I wanted a roll pan and he didn’t. The color choice was not mine but happy he stuck to his guns. Anyway, future plans are going to be lowering it small block engine, maybe some coil overs in the rear and a four link suspension. You may be asking what the beginning of my story had to do with all of this. This was my father’s rehab program. He knew if he kept me busy, more than likely I would stand a chance of keeping myself together. And so far, it’s working like a charm so yeah, this truck means a little more to me than just an old truck. I have amazing people in my corner.
