1972 Chevy Blazer – Larry F.

The Story of my Mistress, Gracie.

I acquired a really rough 1972 K/5 in 2015. She had great bones, but pretty much everything was in bad shape. The 350 engine and trans was ready to go and I was constantly chasing wiring problems. After spending countless hours on the electrical, I decided to replace all the wiring with a wiring harness from American Auto Wire.

While the wiring was out, I sanded and painted the interior satin black. Old front and rear seats, as well as the carpeting was removed. Kilz Mat was installed from front to back, sides of the tub and inside the doors. New carpet kit installed for the front and back. I had the rear seat reupholstered and installed 2 new TMI seats in the front. I installed a spare tire bracket from a later model Blazer.

After buying new Method wheels to go with my 33” Wrangler tires I replaced the original 3.08 gears with Yukon 3.83 full-posi gears and axels. To finish underneath, I installed a behind-the-bumper Smittybilt 12,000 lb winch.

To finish off the interior, I added a Vintage-Air HVAC system to my build. I also upgraded the standard dash instruments with a Digital Dakota VHX control system to include fan-controller module, outside temp and compass module and cruise control module.

Finally, I had a new Blueprint 383 stroker motor married to a rebuilt TH350 trans. She really scoots now, dyno’d at 460 hp with 490 ft/lb of torque. I can finally go anywhere on/off road with the confidence of an ultra-reliable vehicle that is fun to drive.
