Okay, long story short… About 20 years ago, with the help of my brother, I restored a 1981 F150 Shortbed/stepside… Didn’t insure it correctly, got t-boned on a highway and totaled it:)… So, the guys at work, without my knowing, spent time researching to find me another one and located a 1985 F150 Shortbed/stepside near my home. It needed A LOT more attention than the ’85, but it was right up my alley. So, I purchased it for $2,500.00 and started making a list of what I needed… Starting with a complete overhaul of the engine, straight six (’81 was 302). This truck had been sitting a very long time. I had my mechanic completely go through everything removing old and replacing it with new. I took it down and had new exhaust system installed (flow master), then tires, wheels, and waited 3 years for rust removal and new paint. I bought a kit for woodbed, installed new hidden tailgate locks, (but still need cables, so I don’t hit the bumper). Oh, yeah, it did not come with a bumper, but received help on a Ford Enthusiasts forum to locate one, then had to have brackets made to install. Finally, interior install will happen this winter… Close to done, and it is my daily driver.
