1955 Chevy 3600 – Marty T.

It all started many years ago with a ’55 Chevy pick up that I used for work as a landscaper. After a few years of using the truck for work, I decided I needed a dump truck so I found a ’73 C30 dump truck and retired the pick up from work but then it just sat around and started to deteriorate. The ’73 after a few years, was also starting to fall apart, well at least the cab and dump body. So, I came up with the brilliant idea to combine the two and make a custom dump truck and that started my 8-year journey. The first thing I did was strip the ’73 C30 down to just a rolling chassis. Then, I removed the ’55 cab off its frame and grafted it to the rolling chassis. I added 10 lug wheel adapters so I could use 22.5 Alcoa wheels for my build. At this point, my mindset was go big or go home. So, I then added a 1st gen Cummins motor and tranny out of a 1991 Dodge D250. And if that wasn’t enough, I decided to put a set of 6” stacks alongside the cab and a set of 90 gal fuel tanks behind the cab bolted to the frame. To hold all the weight in the back, I managed to fit an air bag suspension from a Mack truck. For all the lighting, it was all big rig themed from front to back and even in the middle, right down to the dual air horns and west coast mirrors. And since everything else was big, I made a custom 14” tall stainless front bumper with running lights all along the bottom. Then, one of the last things was to have a custom stainless dump body made for it. Once I got the truck back from the dump body being installed, it was time for paint and I decided on a burnt orange. Everyone thinks I’m nuts for using it for work, but I built this to use it and that’s what I’m gonna do.
