My Poppa, Joe Ryder, bought this truck new at Camp Chevrolet in Chamblee, GA. Solid light blue with white bumpers and grille. No chrome, no custom cab trim. 230 with three on the tree. His son began to drive it in the 80’s up to 1991 when he died. After that, the truck just started sitting out by the barn until I asked my Poppa if I could have it. He wasn’t one to give anything away, so he made me buy it for $1, that I got from my Granny. That was the summer of 1995, I was 14. I guess my Poppa thought it was a joke and was going to have it hauled to the junkyard until my Aunt and Uncle took it to their house where we got it running and driving in 1999. Teardown started in 2008, 12 years and a lot of help. A lot of money spent on new parts. Later, I was able to drive it for my first and only wedding. It’s basically all new. It now has a 350 still with the three on the tree, new front power disc brakes, tubular upper and lower control arms, 2 inch front and 4 inch rear lowering springs and all new sheet metal except inner fenders and the top 3/4 of the cab. Now, it’s a truck that we take to cruise-in’s and car shows. Not necessarily for the trophy, but to share it with everyone who comes out that loves classics, especially kids.
