1973 Chevy K10 – Kirby M.
Late October 2021 a friend told me about this truck for sale. At the time, I had a Camaro so I really didn’t need another project. But curiosity had the better of me, I took a drive out to see the truck, she was rough, but had character. Growing up around working class square body trucks and actually having the one my Uncle used to pick me up in sitting rotting in a field, I, like so many others, have a connection to these old trucks and took a liking to this diamond in the rough. I took a few pictures and then sent them off to my fiancé Tara, with those pictures I wrote “1973, 4 speed, 350. Want this or the Camaro?” to which I got a quick and assertive “This!”
We loved it just how it was, but quickly wanted to treat it to a simple paint job, just something to make it all one color. I got in contact with a great lad to do the paint, but he wasn’t interested in the simple job I was looking for, he insisted if he was to put his name on it, it had to be done right, we shook on a plan and this was the start of an ever climbing standard that we are so satisfied with.
With the body and paint now going to be a higher standard, I got a hold of a man which I had met when buying his 1977 C10 from him, he did beautiful upholstery work and had recently opened a shop with his brother called No Bull Garage based in Carleton Place Ont.
Once a plan was in place for body, paint and interior, I knew this truck needed all new jewelry. I turned to LMC, where I bought almost every piece of brightwork, trim, decals, and emblems.
Living in Canada, it can be challenging to get these types of parts in a timely manner, I must say, almost everything I would order form LMC would come quickly and as expected.
All this happened over the 21/22 winter, Tara thought the truck was in just to get a simple scuff and spray. Two tone, side trim, and other work was added as work progressed. Spring of 2022 the truck was done. I still remember the shock and surprise when I pulled it into her work. She’s the operations Manager of our local GM dealer and it was great seeing this truck come full circle.
Since that day, it’s been her truck, she loves it, takes it to work, drives it all over running errands, knows the truck inside and out and surprises a few ol’ lads that it’s her truck, what she knows and how she loves it. We travel all over Ontario with it and we even tow with it from time to time.
I never knew I could be happy having a girl take my truck, but with how happy I see this K10 makes her and how well they compliment each other, I can tell you guys, there’s no better feeling.
