Classic high school ride! At fifteen, my grandparents gifted this K5 to me. At the time, it needed an engine and full running gear before I could drive it. After getting it running, it was driven for a couple years until I graduated. After graduation, it was mainly for playing in the mud. Eventually, it just sat in the yard for a good 10 year span rusting away. It was arguably rusted beyond repair when a friend who owns Wayne Lillie Painting pulled off a miracle frame off restoration. It took a village to make this happen, my wife who wanted me to fulfill a childhood dream to restore it, my son and daughter who wanted to take it for weekend cruises, my father who was there from day one to help, and a friend and painter Wayne Lillie, who pulled off the ultimate “Rust to Road” restoration.
This past September, we entered the K5 in our local show and shine where I was awarded “People’s Choice”. Now, it comes out for school drop offs, pickups, and Friday night football games; to all the same schools that I drove this Blazer to when I was fifteen. At thirty-six years old now, it’s come full circle.
The LMC Catalog is the best for replacement parts! 90% of the bolt-ons were purchased from LMC. The catalog and its photos served as my own repair manual in putting my project back together. Thanks again for all the parts and dedication to all us guys out here restoring our High School rides!
