My stepfather and the only father I ever knew, since my dad left my mother when I was born, passed away five years ago and left me his 1982 S-10 Tahoe 2.8 liter V6 that was on its last leg. It sat under a tree in the backyard of my mother’s house. It wouldn’t start and the last time he had driven the truck, a large puddle of liquid was on the ground. Less than a year later, my mother passed away from her 4th battle with Cancer. I set out with the goal of repairing the truck and getting it back on the road. I took it to a mechanic who owned his own shop. I purchased a new motor sine the one in it had blown up. I had the mechanic rebuild the transmission, I bought a new carburetor, closed off all the vacuum lines, purchased a new steering column, new battery, new lines and hoped to have the vehicle back in some months. The mechanic closed his shop, moved to Texas, moved back to NC and reopened his shop. Every time I called to get the vehicle, something else was needed from somewhere to make the vehicle work. It now runs, but the mechanic is stating that the truck needs a 2 barrel carburetor, not the new one that I just purchased because he said that was what I needed. He now says I need an intake kit which I cannot find anywhere. The interior of the truck needs work also along with the doors. When the driver’s side door closes, the lock goes down and the door locks, so I have to keep the window cracked. This is the first model of this truck and it seems to have come with all the problems that a first year vehicle in the 80’s would have.
