My obsession with the Chevy Squarebody started when I was about 5 years old. 3 years ago, my dream of owning and restoring one came true!
I looked everyday on the internet for about a year and actually came upon one in my town. I discovered when I went to look at it that it was owned by a kid I had watched grow up with my own children. He had bought it for himself for graduation, but was needing something more economical while he was in college. It was a good starter truck, but needed work.
I brought it to my dad’s garage and started tearing it down. It sat in pieces for about a year while I bought parts and watched video after video on YouTube of how to put it back together and tips and tricks to make it better. My wife even talked me into trying to paint it on my own. What’s the worst that could happen? Just sand it down and start again.
I had help from family and friends along the way that I’m very grateful for. I bought a 350ci motor from a local engine builder. I lifted the truck to a 4-inch lift with 15×10 Weld Super Singles. I redid the inside of the cab from new seat upholstery to new stereo and everything in between.
I’m extremely proud to say I painted the truck myself and it turned out better than I could imagine. People ask me who painted the truck because it looks so good and the color is amazing!
I’m so excited after 3 years of hard work, it’s all come together and better than what I had dreamed it could be!
