1988 Ford F150 – Matt W.

My Dad bought the truck brand new back in 1988. Times were getting better around that time for him. All of us kids were grown up and me being the youngest at 21 then, I remember it like yesterday, lol, Dad pulled in the driveway and Mom was like “Who is that?”. Dad came inside smiling ear to ear, then Mom ask the big question. Whose truck is that? We can’t afford a new truck! My Dad worked for Marion Power Shovel and bought investments in the company. They got bought and changed to Marion Dresser. Dad cashed out some investments and bought the truck with cash. The look on Mom’s face, “how much are the payments?” Dad said “No payments ” Then, he told her how he paid for it lol. Not happy, she started giving him a list… 2 weeks later, we had new living room furniture, TV, and carpet put in. Back to the truck, years down the road, Dad had gotten health issues. I drove him to doctor’s appointments and he insisted I drive his truck. This truck has never seen 56mph before lol. Dad took great care of his vehicles. Dad passed away in 2005 and my brother got the truck. My brother didn’t drive it much, occasionally a trip to lumber yard or gas station. Dad had a garage he kept it in, unfortunately my brother didn’t. Paint faded and started pealing and rust formed over the years. One day, recently my brother asked if I wanted it. He was gonna junk it for $400. I said no, that I didn’t need another vehicle. As I thought about it a few minutes, I called him back and said I’ll take it. I paid him $400 and put $2,000 more into it, lol. It brings me joy knowing Dad’s truck is still on the road. I’m hoping to get my catalog and start replacing parts it needs soon.
