In mid June of 2021, my uncle told me about a truck he was helping a good friend of his sell. I saw a picture of it and instantly fell in love. I got his friends’ number and gave him a call to schedule a time to look at the truck. Fast forward to July 3rd, I arrived at the property and in the back corner of the backyard was the truck. The paint was faded, tires were flat and cobwebs everywhere, the interior was immaculate after looking over the truck I new I had to take it home and give it another life. Since the owner passed away, it’s been sitting in the backyard for over 5 years. So I bought the truck on site and got it towed to my house where I began working on getting it running again. After months of work on December 5th 2021, she fired up for the first time in over 5 years. I took her for a drive with only the front brakes that still worked even with the pads that were worn out but never failed. I ordered new brakes from LMC and they arrived in no time. I drove the truck to my school and did a complete brake job in my automotive class. After I replaced the brakes, I made her my daily driver to school every day for one and a half years until I decided I wanted some more power. So I pulled the motor out in my automotive class and completely rebuilt the motor and did some upgrades, increased compression aluminum intake 650 Holley carburetor headers and a custom camshaft that hits like no other 390 FE. After installing the engine, I got the truck ready just in time for my senior year in High School. After graduating, I got a job as a mechanic and still continue to drive her every day. The main reason why I bought the truck was because it was built in Norfolk, VA as my great grandfather who worked at the Ford plant in Norfolk, VA after the war until he retired in 1985. He worked on the truck assembly line and worked his way up from the chassis line to quality control. So the chances that he laid hands on the truck are very high. Every time I drive, I always think of him and how proud he would be of me for what I have accomplished with this truck.
