1966 Chevy C10 – Wolf S.

About 17 years ago or 2007 to be exact, I saw an ad in the Alabama old truck trader that sparked my interest. The widow of the original owner Mrs Spaulding, was selling her deceased husband’s truck. They had purchased it new from the Birmingham Chevy dealership. They ordered it with the custom trim, panoramic rear window, chrome bumpers, V8 engine, radio and special heavy duty rear end. It was their pride and joy. The teenage kids were not allowed to borrow it for Saturday night carousing. I talked to one of the sons and he admitted that the truck survived because dad did not lend it out. Dad or Raymond Spaulding was a plumber and this truck was his service truck. He kept his tools of the trade on the back of the truck inside of a locked cap. This cap saved the original wooden floor in the truck bed. I drove down from Canada to look at this truck. The price seemed right. After a test drive, a deal was struck and I loaded the ’66 on my car hauler and journeyed back to Canada, back to my home with Old Blue in tow. I am the second owner of this gem and it is all original. The engine is a 283 cu. and has never been apart and it runs great. No oil burning no drips. Original tranny and drivetrain. This truck is a true survivor. The first owner always kept the truck in his garage and I have done the same. I would jump into this truck and drive it across the country, that is how reliable it still is. I have changed master cylinder and brake hoses, wheel cylinders and rebuilt the Rochester carb. Fuel pump, fuel hoses, fuel filter, shocks, new tires were also replaced and Moon hubcaps as the original ones were lost a long time ago. Everything works on this ’66, everything. Original color blue paint is the second paint and showing lots of patina. The floor mats are original, the seat cover may have been renewed at some time in the past. I had this truck at various events, from bike shows in Vermont to car shows in eastern Ontario. I have turned down many offers from people who wanted to buy the truck but Old Blue is staying right here with my wife and me. Fall drive to look at the fall colors coming up.
