This truck was purchased for our 16 year old son, Alex. Initially, we intended it to be somewhat of a beater truck, but after not being able to find any sort of cab support, it ended up being a 10-month long frame-off restoration. From having a 1968 bed on it and a 250 with a Saginaw floor shifter out of a Camaro, there was a lot of metal that headed to the scrap yard or repurposed in other ways.
The bed is 100% brand new, purchased all from LMC down to every last bolt. The cab had a donor rear portion from an Arizona junkyard as it had some pretty old school brazed repairs and a ton of bondo. The doors got new skins and added the passenger side mirror. The only original part of the front clip is the hood. Everything else was too far gone to salvage or repair. To finish, the truck was painted two-stage GM Victory Red and three-stage GM Pearl White, all painted in our garage.
After all was said and done, we managed to get this father-son truck finished a day prior to the first day of his Junior year of High School, that way he can show his friends.
The truck is a daily driver and gets a ton of compliments. Recently, he won people’s choice at a local car show which was cool to be a part of.
