I bought Little Red in ’93 from a long haul trucker. It had Little Red on the hood air deflector as well as a big chrome air horn on the roof. He said he liked to come up behind someone on the highway and pull the air horn. The horn was the first thing to go. I must say, it was pretty loud and sounded like a big rig.

The body was in good shape, with no rust, but the mechanicals were getting tired. I particularly liked the truck because it was an F150 with 4wd and had a V8 engine. I had previously owned a ’77 F150 with the big six engine and manual trans. It was in nice condition but didn’t have much pulling power when going up a hill and tended to overheat.
Over the years, with parts and advice from LMC, I have either restored or replaced about everything on the truck. I think the biggest impacts on how well it drives is the new 351 engine with long tube headers and low restriction exhaust. Also unhooking the AC took some load off the engine. AC is not used much around here so it was no big loss.

I have had a fun time bringing Little Red back to life. Now that I’m retired, I thought of what else I might do to enhance the truck. I’ve looked a little into adding disk brakes in the rear and upgraded to a 4bbl carb.

In the meantime, I’m having fun driving it around and dropping in on an occasional car meet. The bright red color and a lot of chrome makes it stand out in a line of vehicles.
