I purchased a stock ’54 Chevy pickup of fairly decent driver quality in Montana and had my son deliver it to me here in Arizona. I personalized it and enjoyed driving it for a time until I decided I needed a nicer truck for cruising and local car shows. After doing a rendering of what I would like to do, I purchased a bare ’54 frame to upgrade with a 4 link rear suspension and mustang 2 type front end and boxed frame rails. I had planned on swapping the body from the stock truck to the upgraded chassis when all was ready. At this point in the story, many of my friends said I was nuts for wanting to ruin 1 good truck to build another. And after having my head examined, I finally agreed and purchased a beat up ’54 pickup with a decent body and hood. After sandblasting, body work and mods I envisioned, I installed the body, doors and hood on the upgraded chassis and purchased all new bed panels, fenders and misc. parts as it was cheaper than fixing what was left of my donor truck. The engine is a 350 SBC originally built as a basic carbureted engine until a friend of mine found a new 350 ramjet setup with the full wire harness never used. Needless to say, this changed the scheme of things requiring a re-spec of the engine to ramjet specs. The tranny is a 700R4 rebuilt locally. The rear end is an 8.8-inch Ford Explorer sport trac with 370 gears. QA-1 adjustable shocks all around with power disc brakes with vented rotors. The Original hood has been welded to 1 piece. All body vents were removed. New smoke tinted glass installed. I wanted something different for the tailgate lettering and after purchasing a plain tailgate, I had it lettered by a local pin-striper with Louis Chevrolets signature I found online. The interior was my worst headache requiring 3 different shops and me to complete. The seats are from a 2003 Lincoln towncar 6 way power each. I’m happy to say my vision turned out pretty close to my rendering and thanks LMC for the help along the way for the many parts supplied to complete it.
