This story started in the 1980’s when my buddy Jim Durfee worked for my Uncle at Chesney’s Auto Salvage. They built this truck out of some old mining trucks. That is why the color is yellow. Originally it had a homemade lift kit and 38 inch tires. 40 years later at a car show, I asked Jim whatever happened to the old yellow truck. He said last time he saw it, it had blue doors and a flat bed and looked really tired. A few weeks later I noticed a yellow truck with blue doors for sale with other parts trucks. Jim said his truck was originally automatic transmission, he swapped to 4 speed. This truck had a 4 speed but also had an auto steering column. Jim also recognized the Snap On Tools decal on the ash tray. I also recognized the rear axle had red paint on it, I remember Jim painting the axles red with I was just a 10 year old kid. I purchased the truck for $150. I offered the truck to Jim but he said he has too many other projects going on so I decided to build it myself. I’ve always wanted to do a frame up high rider. The 3 year restoration involved sandblast and paint frame and axles, a 6 inch Rough Country Lift, 37″ Falken tires, EFI 460 with C6 automatic. The cab needed floors and cab corners. We found a Texas box and found solid doors off an F550 (notice the door handles) Originally Chrome Yellow which is darker, almost orange, we chose Porsche racing Yellow to give it more of a “pop”. The lower picture is from 1980 something. The truck was named Noris Johnson back in the day.
