1968 Chevy C20 – Alden C.
My name is Alden Cost, this 68 c20 4spd with a 327 gm small block belongs to my father, Henry Cost Jr. My father purchased this truck in 1978 or 1979 to the best of my knowledge, prior to me being born. This truck has always been an essential member of the family. Whether it was hauling a camping trailer behind it, doing dump runs, or hauling cords and cords of wood. It seemed the ole girl was always at work. Henry did a mild restoration and paint around 87′ or so. A nice 78′ GM camel brown adorned white wagon wheels on bias ply’s, the mack bulldog fender emblems found their new home on this 68′ at this time. A personal touch that separates it from the rest. In the end, us kids grew up and the ole girl sat for over 20 years untouched. Fast forward to about late 23′ my father fell very ill, the prognosis was bleak, but somehow through will and determination he survived. My father had suggested I fix the brakes and make it run so he could drive it again. As if he needed to reconnect with a family member, which it always was. At that point I knew I needed to get him back in that truck, and it was time to restore this 68′ for its proper retirement from the work force. It was something I decided to do without him knowing. What you see in the photos is a culmination of many friends and family getting together to help me get this done. It was taken down to the frame, and we started completely over. The truck still sports the same corvette 327 with a 4-barrel quadrajet and a 4 speed. but is now done in a period correct 68′ camel brown, with a 68′ fawn on the interior. He received it on Father’s Day 2024, smiles for miles! Emotional moment for all of us, and thankful for the time he can now spend cruising his old stomping grounds. A huge thank you to LMC for helping this along with their large selection of parts at the tips of my fingers, hats off to you for keeping the dream alive.
