1968 Ford F350 – Mark H.

Frame off Restoration
I was getting ready to retire and thinking of starting on a project truck. While driving through the country I saw it, 68 F-350 Dually and thought, ya know, nobody has as old Dually, this would be somewhat unique.

At the time I bought it, it was just a cab and chassis. The VIN told me it came from the factory with a 6 cylinder motor that somebody had changed to a 302 with some not so fancy welding of angle iron.

The cab was solid structurally, but many panels were rusted through. I stripped everything down to the nuts and bolts, had a guy bring his sandblaster to my shop and blast every part down to bare metal immediately followed by epoxy primer.

The body went to the restoration shop and I got started on a two year journey putting the old thing back together. I got a guy from Charlotte, NC to build me a 351 Windsor that would bolt up directly to the original truck 4 speed manual transmission.

Had to fabricate my own motor mount perches since there was never that truck/motor combination originally. It seemed like every other week I was placing another order with LMC.

I put power brakes, AC, and electric power steering on it.

Had the flatbed fabricated to my spec. I kept the original wheels (powder coated) since I wanted it to look like a work truck, after all, that’s what it was originally made for.

I had to take 3 of the leaf springs out of the rear suspension to smooth out the ride a little bit. It will never have that Cadillac ride to it, but that just reminds me of the age of it everytime I drive it.
