1990 Chevy K3500 – Gabriel D.
In early 2020, I traded a beat-to-hell ’80s two-tone K10 — a truck with good bones but plenty of battle scars — for a ’90 Chevrolet K3500 that would soon become legendary to me. That’s how “Hank” came into my life. I was still pretty young when my grandpa and I got him, but it was clear from the start that this wasn’t just any truck. With a factory Mark-4 454 big block, a manual Muncie SM465 transmission, 4×4, and dual rear wheels, Hank already commanded attention.
I begged for days to be picked up from school in him, especially after the exhaust work was finished. Hank became the truck where my grandpa taught me to truly work with my hands and how to care for a vehicle. Learning to drive a manual on him was unforgiving, but it forced me to catch on fast — and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
By middle school, Hank really started to grow on me. I would talk about him at school, and soon I had a reputation in my friend group as having the “nicest truck.” I didn’t know much about him at first, other than that he was a beefy, beautiful machine that I loved. As I started researching, I realized just how rare he really is — a 2-door dually 4×4 with a Mark-4 454 and a manual transmission isn’t something you see every day.
Hank isn’t just a “Good Ol’ Truck” to me — he’s a symbol of the bond I share with my grandpa and a key part of my childhood. Every scratch, rumble, and turn reminds me of those early days learning, growing, and falling in love with trucks.
