1989 Chevy K1500 – Ronald B.

This one and a 1998 were being sold by a kid who had no idea what he had and abused the hell out of these poor trucks, so I managed to get lucky and pick those trucks up for $500 a piece both with bad motors. For the 89 I picked up a motor block at the junkyard to build because the motor that was in it had a cracked oil pan from damage internally in the motor at the crank. So I decided I’m going to build this truck because it’s a red bow tie edition which is a very rare truck to find and it’s the extended cab. I love the truck, it looks like an old beast but I’ll tell you what, when I’m done with it it’s going to be like a brand new truck. I think Chevy is the best four-wheel drive or any kind of truck on the market because they’re more durable they outlast Ford and Dodge at any given avenue and you don’t have to worry about them falling down on you as long as you take good care of them. I’m an avid Chevy lover because I know the loyalty I get from them. I own three of them a 1993 stepside, a 1989 red bow tie, and a 1998 Chevy Silverado with a short bed, all with extended caps and I’ve got the brand new motor I built for the 89 runs like a kitten board 40 over 5.7 L engine standard transmission new tranny new transfer case I’m building this truck all the way. The guy wanted stupid money for it thinking he was going to con somebody into giving him what he wanted and I’ve been doing this all my life I’m 68 years old I started working on cars and trucks when I was 10 years old so I knew what I was doing. I’ve been doing this game all my life but when the kids tried to calm me I told him flat out hell no there’s no way in the world you’re going to get that kind of money for two trucks that have blown motors especially when you lied to me and told me they both run before I even got out here so I got both of them for $500 a piece and been building the 89 since I bought it little at a time cuz takes money to put things together that are abused the way this was; so that’s what’s going on with this truck but I’ve got to buy an instrument cluster I’ve got to buy a headliner for it I actually found the factory interior that that truck came out of the factory with in a salvage yard the exact same cloth the exact same color everything 100% identical to what that truck rolled off the showroom floor with which is a small miracle in itself I was so proud of that I hunted the junkyard for months to find it and there it was sitting right in front of me one day. I walked up at you pull and pay of all places where usually they’re stripped as fast as they arrive and I got blessed it was just put in the yard where anybody could start stripping it and I was the first one to walk up and see that interior I lit up like a kid in a candy store nobody could believe I pulled that off but I’m dedicated to my trucks! Nobody can tell me it’s impossible because I don’t believe in impossible I’ve lived all my life doing this and I have a joy in it it’s still a passion of mine all these years to build what people throw away especially when it’s a special edition that you would never believe somebody would just throw away. I got this truck in March of 2023 and like I said it takes money to put things together I’m still putting the truck together but I got the engine running like a brand new engine which it is new drivetrain this truck is amazing it’s bored 40 over like I said originally and it just pers like a kitten. Like I said I own three of these Silverado I love them to death they’re loyal my 93 stepside I’ve had for 7 years got it for $500 when I got it I keep them up I take care of them believe me you take care of them they take care of you and I’ve been an average Chevy truck man for decades started buying Chevy trucks back in the late ’80s and that’s the only kind of truck I’ll buy. Once you get involved in GM trucks you never go back to any other truck at least I won’t but if anybody wants to talk to me about Chevy trucks I live in Peyton Colorado and I bought a property with believe it or not a 6 ton car lift in the shop as part of the buy and I build my vehicles and enjoy bringing them back to life in the condition they should be in but my name is Ron and that’s the story about my trucks but my phone number is 719-928-0124 if anybody’s curious about getting one restored.
