1968 Chevy C20 – Ed G.

I ordered this truck in July of 1967. I ordered factory AC and the .292 and four-speed on the floor. Actually a 3-speed with a ‘granny’ gear. This truck was destined for many years of hard work. Picked it up on October 7, 1967 with my then, fiancee, Kathy with me. We went straight to the A & W in Clovis to celebrate. I was pulling cotton trailers with it the next day!
We were married on May 18, 1968 and went on our three-day honeymoon with Old Blue to San Francisco and the Central Coast.
At one point in the 70’s and 80’s, I had side racks that were level with the top of the cab. I could load it up with firewood to the top and pull out of some of the steepest places on our mountain property in the Sierra Nevada. Never had much speed, but great pulling power!
All of my four boys learned to drive in this truck and they all went on their first dates with Old Blue. I don’t believe power steering was an option then. Regardless this truck doesn’t have PS and requires quite a bit of strength just to get it out of the garage and down the driveway, especially when it had 16″ split rim wheels on it!
I went to this color in an earlier restoration in the late 80’s. I redid the truck again in 2022 and this is the result. I have a client that has a saw mill in the Sierra Nevada foothills and the Sugar Pine I used for the bed came from his mill. I then hand milled all of the wood to proper size and fit. Then stained and added 15 coats of Verithane.
Needless to say, Old Blue will probably be in the family longer than Kathy and I.
