1985 Chevy K10 – Roberto G.

In 2011, I was in my Junior year of High School. My dad came up to me asking me what car my dream would be to drive to school, and I said his 87 Blazer he used to have. Since I grew up loving square body trucks and blazers. He said he had a friend from EL Paso that wants to sell me his 85 Square body Nicknamed “La Mula”. In English it translates into the Mule, because it would not get stuck in the sand dunes. I immediately said how much, and can he wait? He only wanted $1000 for it. So, what I did was go to work at my Busboy job and saved all I could for 3 months. Gave the money to my dad, so he and my uncle can go pick it up. Since I was working, going to school, and playing soccer I couldn’t go. Once it was with us in DFW, my dad and I got to work to get it running properly. Over the summer after my Junior Year, my dad decided to surprise me and sent it off to a body shop to get it painted. Although what transpired after pushed back my progress and motivation. The body shop owner decided he wanted to keep the truck and not do any of the work after my dad had already paid him the full amount. So, my dad had to go to the shop and take it back in turn losing all his money he paid him. It was not fun seeing my once Chevy tan truck all torn apart and most parts missing or thrown away by the owner. So, after over a decade I am getting back to restoring the truck and want to give it to my dad for him to enjoy his retirement in the future. He’s always done so much, his family and I would love to gift him one of his dream trucks.
