1962 Chevrolet C20 – Jim B.
I purchased my 1962 Chevrolet C20 factory 4X4 in 1988 in Anchorage, Alaska. As a 3/4 ton 4×4, the truck was special ordered from the factory and spent it’s life in Alaska as a working farm truck. Aficionados will quickly notice the truck has a 1965 body (with a 62 grill). We don’t know why this is or when it was swapped. The earliest title on file at Alaska DMV was from 1965, but the truck shows on the title as a 62 and the VIN is 62. The engine and all the running gear (axles, 4 speed transmission, transfer case, etc.) are all original and work perfectly. For several years the truck was my daily driver. In 1992, I had the original 283 completely rebuilt. The shop was amazed, I drove the vehicle there and given the wear, they found in the engine with the cam lobe worn nearly smooth and several cracked rings. We estimated the truck had well over 250,000 miles on it and possibly over 300,000. Over time my truck became semi-retired and used for trips to Big Box Building supply stores, hauling loads of dirt or gravel and regular trips to the local landfill. I never had a garage with room for the truck and it lived outside full time in the Alaska weather. Last year my wife and I moved to Tennessee. My wife convinced me to bring the truck with us. We now have a large workshop and I have begun restoring this treasured member of our family. While we will address all rust related structural issues, repair rusted out panels and restore the interior. We are going to maintain as much of the well-earned patina as possible! I just received my first order of parts from LMC, with several more yet to come and my truck will continue doing the jobs it was designed and built to do.
